BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Spanish baroque carving from the XVII century.
"Saint Augustine".
Carved and polychrome wood.
It presents faults in the carving and polychrome.
Measurements: 53 cm (height).
Baroque sculpture in carved wood representing with verism and naturalistic will a Pope or bishop, richly dressed with tunic and mantle, touched with mitre and, probably, originally carrying a crosier. The tunic is undulated with vertical folds that enhance the play of chiaroscuro. It is a carving worked practically in the round, but it was intended for frontal contemplation, so the back is not worked.
