JUAN OLIVEIRA VIÉITEZ (Tuy, 1928 - Vigo, 2002).
"Cavalo".
Bronze. Unique piece.

Round sculpture representing a galloping horse. The piece stands out for the great expressiveness that the artist achieves by moulding the gesture of an animal that stands out for its dignity and magnificence in the pose. Throughout his career, Joan José de Oliveira specialised in animal sculpture, focusing particularly on figures of bulls and horses. He devoted himself to art late in life, mainly from the age of 40 onwards, but he achieved considerable public and critical success, and his large-format works can now be found in important public spaces in many Galician cities, Madrid, Guadalajara, Menorca and elsewhere. Some of his most important pieces can be seen in Vigo, in the Plaza de España, or in his hometown, Tuy. His work is always extremely expressive, figurative, but with synthetic forms, where the author seeks to reproduce movement, emotion, dynamism, rather than anatomical details, which he sometimes simplifies or, on the contrary, exaggerates, in order to convey the emotion he is looking for.
