Andreas Kompatscher studied first at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and then in Vienna. He worked in Rome in 1887, then collaborated in the construction of the Burgtheater in Vienna before settling in Bolzano in 1890, where he served as professor and head of the department of stone sculpture at the State School of Commerce from 1909.
