DESCRIPTION
Possibly VICENTE PERELLÓ LACRUZ (Valencia, 1933-2008).
"Mother and child", second half of the twentieth century.
Stoneware sculpture
It has some flaws and cracks.
Measurements: 95 x 30 x 30 cm.
Stoneware sculptural group representing a mother standing, leaning her torso forward to take her son's hands and protect him. Synthetic forms and rough textures combine here to communicate a great expressive force. The author draws his inspiration from prehistoric art and ancestral cultures.
Given its stylistic characteristics and the technique used, the present piece in tender (a mold intended for bronze casting) may have been made by Vicente Perelló La Cruz. This Valencian artist was famous for his discretion and his deep Gnostic convictions, keeping out of artistic fashions. His round sculptures are distinguished by a striking and stark expressionism: Perelló used to capture the figures at the moment of maximum dramatism, managing to modernize the aesthetics of traditional imagery.
