BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
SILVESTRE DE EDETA, (1909 - 2014). "Female bust". In terracotta. Signed. Measurements: 19 x 17 x 20 cm (pedestal). Silvestre de Edeta was a Valencian sculptor and painter. Descendant of a humble and agricultural family, he began in a self-taught way in the drawing, continuing with the learning of the carving in the workshop of tombstones and sculptures of pantheons that an uncle of his had. Later, he entered the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos de Valencia, where he obtained the title of professor of drawing. However, his recognition comes from the sculptural discipline in which he was very prolific, as can be seen, with numerous works exhibited in many streets, squares and buildings of Spanish cities, such as Valencia, Barcelona or Seville. In his works stand out the daily scenes of the countryside, the female nude, the virginity of the young woman and motherhood. Silvestre de Edeta, throughout his extensive and fruitful artistic career, has garnered numerous awards and recognitions, such as the Roig Prize of the School of Fine Arts of San Carlos de Valencia in 1933; Second Prize in the poster competition for the International Exhibition Fair of Valencia in 1948; Prize for the poster announcing the first Biennial of Art of the Kingdom of Valencia in 1955; Third Medal for Sculpture in the Salón de Otoño de Madrid in 1956; Prize of the City Council of Barcelona to the sculptural group "The lesson", which is installed in Barcelona's Plaza Adriano, in 1960; First Prize "Senyera" of Sculpture of Valencia in 1963; Prize of sculpture in the Salon of Autumn of the Royal Academy Santa Isabel of Hungary of Seville in 1963; First prize for sculpture at the Salón de Otoño in Palma de Mallorca in 1966; Sculpture prize from the Dirección General del Patrimonio Artístico, at the Salón de Otoño held in Seville in 1975; and appointment as a full member of the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos in 1981; among others.
