BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Set of four fountains, 20th century.
Patinated bronze.
Measurements: 220 x 60 x 36 cm.
Set of four fountains in the shape of hermas made of patinated and aged bronze.
Originally, this type of pieces were used as landmarks or signs to mark roads, borders and property boundaries. They were topped with a head, usually of the god Hermes, placed on a pillar; over the centuries these were transformed. Representations of other deities that shared the same shape as the original pieces began to appear, also generically called hermas.
In this case, the hermas have the figure of the god Bacchus and a stipe shape in its lower third, which is covered by fruits and vegetable elements, typical of the divinity.
