Manuel Solà was formed in the School of La Lonja of Barcelona, and immediately after finishing his studies he was awarded the X Prize of Young Painting of the room Parés of Barcelona (1968). He made his individual debut the following year, with two exhibitions of paintings and drawings at the Municipal Museum of Mataró and at the Ateneo Barcelonés. At this time he is awarded the silver medal in the painting contest "El Correo Catalán" (1971). He continues to show his work in Catalonia, and in 1976 he participates for the first time in a collective exhibition abroad, in the French city of Toulouse. That same year he enters the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona to broaden his training. From the nineties onwards he will take part in collective exhibitions outside Spain and biennials such as the one in Alexandria, where he will obtain the jury's prize (1999). Gradually he will abandon painting and will opt for the sculptural language, a field in which he will make several monumental works in various parts of Spain. He is represented in the Col-lecció Testimoni of La Caixa, among other important art collections.
