This bronze plate, attributed to the Italian School of the XVII century, presents a scene of marked expressive intensity in which two old people are represented in close dialogue or confrontation. The small format of the work does not prevent an execution of remarkable technical quality. The interaction between the two characters, whether it is a philosophical conversation, an advice or a dispute, is developed with a carefully articulated body language, in which the gestures of the hands, the inclination of the bodies and the direction of the gazes build a silent but eloquent narrative.
The Italian School of the 17th century occupied a place of preeminence in the European art scene not only for its role in the development of the Baroque language, but also for its exceptional mastery of multiple techniques, from painting and sculpture to the decorative arts and fine metalwork.
