Simone Marie Suzanne Boutarel was a French sculptor and medalist recognized mainly for her small-format works depicting animals and birds.
She was descended from the Breton writer Émile Souvestre and his wife Nanine Papot, and was the granddaughter of the writer Eugène Lesbazeilles. Her artistic training led her to study with prominent masters such as Paul Landowski and Édouard Fraisse. She was a member of the Société des artistes français, an institution with which she actively participated in exhibitions. In 1928, he presented at the Salon des Indépendants a bust together with a showcase of small sculptures. The following year, he received a bronze medal at the Salon de Paris and subsequently won silver medals in the 1931 and 1937 editions. His artistic career lasted for decades, continuing his exhibitions until the end of the 1960s.
Although her production concentrated on small-format pieces, she occasionally produced larger works, such as the bronze ornaments on the gates of the Falaise market in Normandy, which were restored in 2022.
In addition to her work as a sculptor and medalist, she also ventured into painting, a discipline with which she participated in the artistic competition of the 1924 Summer Olympic Games.
