In this marble sculpture the author presents us with an image very much to the taste of the time, a friendly theme in which a child is represented in the manner of a classic "putto", a chubby child who is raising his right arm in whose hand you can see a cup.
Donato Carabelli descended from a family of sculptors and stucco artists from Ticino who operated in Italy and abroad, in Portugal, Germany, Austria and England, whose founder was Antonio Carabelli. Donato followed the neoclassical artistic trend, as evidenced by some of his major works: the bas-relief depicting the history of the Lombard League, on the facade of Palazzo Serbelloni in Milan, created together with his uncle Francesco Carabelli.Donato and his uncle Francesco often worked in pairs at the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo in Milan, where they were noted for the bas-reliefs depicting the explorers returning from the promised land, Daniel in the lions' den, Jacob's struggle with the angel, and for the statues and caryatids.
Donato suspended for a while his collaboration in the decoration of the Cathedral of Milan, because he moved to England to carry out the decorations of Lord Bristol's Ickworth Castle in the county of Suffolk.
