This Art Nouveau silver-plated pewter pitcher takes the form of a baluster on a circular pedestal. Its relief decoration is deeply narrative: it features a satyr spying on a sleeping nude woman, wrapped under vines, grapes and grapevines. The handle reinforces the organic theme by being sculpted in the shape of a vine shoot.
Noël Ruffier studied with C. M. Guilbert d'Anelle and Anoine Dumont. In 1878 and 1896 he exhibited his works, among others, in the Paris Salons.
