This vase is an example of the creative freedom of the period, where the human figure and natural elements merge to elevate a functional object to the category of art sculpture.
Its creator, Jean-Maurice Petizon (known as "Petiz"), was a sculptor who, after being the descendant of a saga of miners, founded his own foundry in Paris around 1890. Petiz created numerous pieces in the purest Art Nouveau style and distinguished himself by being his own foundryman, signing all his works with his alias.
