This silver plated pewter piece is a reinterpretation of the classic Roman and Pompeian models. The work is notable for its upper lid, crowned with a figure of the goddess Hebe, servant of the gods and personification of youth. The body of the chalice is profusely ornamented in relief with vines, leaves and fruits, fusing Greco-Roman iconography with the organic exuberance of Art Nouveau. It rests on an elegant wooden base that enhances its sculptural bearing.
