Silver-plated pewter pitcher, Art Nouveau period, with leaf-shaped handle decorated on the body with a naiad pulling a net in a lake landscape. It is a paradigmatic example that masterfully illustrates the aesthetic revolution that Art Nouveau brought to the decorative arts.
Alexandre Vibert was a French sculptor in the Art Nouveau style, trained by masters such as Emmanuel Frémiet. He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français between 1883 and 1907, where he already stood out in 1885 with the imposing bronze group Love Laughs at Wisdom, and won an honorable mention in 1893. His greatest recognition came in the 1890s for his decorative art objects in bronze and pewter. He collaborated with the famous caster Siot-Decauville, producing notable pieces such as the jugs La Pêche (1893) and La Chasse (1894). His works are identified by the signature "A. Vibert."
Siot-Decauville was an influential French artistic foundry, active in Paris from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Founded by Edmond-Gustave Siot (1841-1908), it established itself as a specialist in the production of bronzes, particularly noted for its mastery of colored patinas. The foundry operated briefly as Siot et Perzinka (1888-1891) and always maintained prestigious showrooms in Paris (first on the Boulevard des Italiens and then on the Boulevard des Capucines).
