Armando Fernández Rodríguez was a Cuban sculptor, draftsman, engraver and teacher trained at the San Alejandro School of Plastic Arts in Havana and later at the Arts Student's League in New York. In 1981, he completed a postgraduate degree at the Akademie Vytvarni Umeni in Prague. Fernández was director of the Leopoldo Romañach School of Plastic Arts in Santa Clara, the National School of Art (ENA) and the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) in Havana. He was a founding member of the Association of Cuban Engravers (AGC) and the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).
