DESCRIPTION
LUISA GRANERO SIERRA (Barcelona, 1924-2012).
"Seated woman".
Stone.
Signed.
Measurements: 100 x 74 x 68 cm.
In this magnificent sculpture Luisa Granero captures a resounding figure, classic in its proportions and serenity, in its balanced expressiveness, but at the same time clearly modern, with volumes far from the ideal and close to nature, to organic and non-ideal forms. Also the position, despite its harmony, moves away from the classical canon to literally reflect the natural model. In this way the artist builds a timeless image, but at the same time physical, combining symbol, ideal and realism.
Luisa Granero trained in Barcelona, at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi. She was a disciple and assistant to the sculptors Jaume Otero and Enric Monjo and, later, professor of sculpture at the current Faculty of Fine Arts in Barcelona, where she received her doctorate in 1983. She is currently a member of the Royal Academies of San Fernando in Madrid, Santa Isabel de Hungría in Seville and Sant Jordi in Barcelona, and a member of the National Sculpture Society of New York since 1973. He has won several awards, including the City of Barcelona, and has several public works in that city, as well as in Zaragoza and Palma de Mallorca. He has also held outdoor exhibitions in various places, such as around the castle of Malcesine in Italy (2004) and in Sitges (2007). In 2009 he received the Autocugat Art Award.
