BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Pair of candlesticks Charles X style; France, late nineteenth century.
Gilded and blued bronze.
They present faults and losses.
Measurements: 63 x 20 x 20 cm (x2).
Pair of candlesticks, made in gilded and bluing bronze. Inspired by the aesthetics of the late neoclassicism, these objects not only show an artistic sensibility oriented towards the recovery of the forms of the past, but also a high degree of technical virtuosity in the treatment of the bronze and in the ornamental composition.
Each candelabra is composed of a quadrangular base on which stands a shaft decorated with fine relief engraving, reminiscent of the textile and architectural motifs of the classical world. Above it is a golden sphere that serves as a visual and symbolic transition to the central figure: a majestic winged female figure, identifiable as a Victory or Nike, the classical personification of triumph. This figure, modeled with great delicacy and blued in a dark tone to contrast with the golden elements, holds with both arms a basket from which the arms of the candelabra emerge, forming a branched and richly decorated structure.
The five light arms, also in gilded bronze, curve elegantly and end in cups decorated with vegetal motifs in high relief.
