José Luis Pequeño has developed a solid training in various artistic disciplines, ranging from advertising graphics and industrial design to painting and, especially, sculpture. Throughout his career, he worked in different specialized workshops, where he perfected his technical mastery, and collaborated closely with renowned architects in interventions in public buildings, integrating art and architecture in urban space.
A particularly relevant aspect of his career was his collaboration with Jorge Oteiza, a fundamental figure of contemporary sculpture in Spain. This experience profoundly marked his understanding of volume, emptiness and form, and left a visible mark on his plastic language, which combines formal research with a poetic sensibility.
Pequeño has exhibited his work in numerous exhibitions both nationally and internationally, and has received several awards and recognitions over the years. His sculptures are part of public and private collections, as well as museums that value his particular contribution to the contemporary sculptural panorama.
The sculptural production of José Luis Pequeño is distinguished by a balance between dynamism, formal simplicity and restrained elegance. Inspired by the morphologies of nature and, in particular, by the animal world, his work conveys his own vision in which lightness becomes a structural principle. Special attention deserves his representation of birds, pigeons and birds, whose silhouettes seem suspended in the air, defying gravity through pure forms that evoke the freedom of flight.
