This vase is a faithful representative of the Art Nouveau style. It has an elegant amphora shape crowned by a mouthpiece of wavy and organic lines. The relief decoration of plant motifs covers the entire surface, and is complemented by the detail of a child clinging to the top of one of the sides.
Alfred Jean Foretay moved to Paris where, in 1877, he attended the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. A student of Falguières, he earned an honorable mention in 1891 and a gold medal in 1904 while attending the Paris Salons. Foretay left a legacy of remarkable sculptures that are highly collectible.
