DESCRIPTION
Solomonic pedestal, XVIII century.
In Belgian marble carving.
Revolving, on a bronze shaft.
Measurements: 103 x 36 x 36 cm.
Pedestal in the form of a salomonic column in Belgian marble, on a turned base and molding seated on an octagonal profile plinth. It crowns with a square board, also in marble. It is a piece fully ascribed to the rococo taste. But, at the same time, its elegance and quality transcends any period style to become a valuable timeless piece.
The twisting of the shaft was frequent in Baroque Solomonic columns. However, in this pedestal the design appears synthesized in the form of helical grooves that give it a singular and dynamic aspect. Its helical aesthetic is accentuated by the movement allowed by the bronze shaft inserted in its center. The rotating shaft suggests a display function, so it is very likely that it was intended to support a sculpture, which could have been linked to a religious or ceremonial context.
