Molina works on the limits of painting: painting not as representation, but as physical presence, as idea and matter that imposes itself on objects and space itself.
In the work we are bidding for, painting ceases to be a surface and becomes an agent, a substance that invades and transforms the object. By covering the tape measure, painting denies the possibility of measuring, of rationalizing, of controlling the world through a system of units.
The act of measuring, symbol of scientific and rational thought, is blocked by painting, which represents the sensorial, the expressive, the uncontrollable. Molina seems to remind us that art is not measured, is not subject to the logic of calculation.
The renowned exhibition curator David Barro writes about the author: "Miguel Ángel Molina is one of those cult artists, far from the media and passing fashions. Precise in his style, he will soon question the tradition of painting to vindicate its condition as an idea, trying to go beyond its vertical character and seeking its debate, its criticism. This flirtation with the limits of painting will lead him to find in the very puddles of paint in his studio a true extension of painting, seeking the physical presence of painting as an entity. The context thus becomes content and, as Brian O'Doherty lucidly stated, a peculiar inversion, the object introduced in a gallery "frames" the gallery and its norms.Miguel Ángel Molina is interested in everything that overflows. The error, the uncontrollable, thus becomes the protagonist and serves as an excuse to rethink the meaning of painting, its successes and failures, how we perceive it and why it continues to be painted".
Miguel Ángel Molina has worked with numerous galleries (UNA, Maribel Nadal Jové, Trinta, among others). He lives in France. His work is part of the Alcobendas Collection.
