CRISTINO MALLO GONZÁLEZ (Tuy, Pontevedra, 1906 - Madrid, 1989).

Sculptor and painter, Cristino Mallo developed his artistic career in Madrid. He began his training at the School of Arts and Crafts in Avilés, and in 1923 he entered the San Fernando School in Madrid, where he had Capuz and Mateo Inurria as teachers. In 1931 he signed the manifesto of the Agrupación Gremial de Artistas Plásticos, and two years later he was awarded the National Sculpture Prize. In 1935 he began teaching at the School of Arts and Crafts in Salamanca. After the Civil War he settled permanently in Madrid, and there he continued his teaching work as a professor at the School of Arts and Crafts between 1966 and 1972. He participated in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts, being awarded the third medal in 1952 and the first in 1954. During these years his recognition grows, and he achieves international prestige by exhibiting his work in Italy. In 1973 he was appointed member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, and in 1983 he was awarded the Gold Medal of Fine Arts. He is currently represented in the Eduardo Capa Foundation, the Caixa Galicia, the Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid and other collections, both public and private, and also has important public monuments in Madrid.
