BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

MICO RABUÑAL (Barcelona, 1990)
"Sugar Pussy".2023
Mixed media on direct carving in granite.
Signed on the base.
Measurements: 27 x 30 x 18 cm.

Carved directly in granite, a material historically associated with hardness, permanence and monumental sculpture, "Sugar Pussy" is paradoxically presented as a soft, organic and sensual form, almost edible, accentuated by the pink finish with a sugary appearance. This contradiction -between the stony and the tactile, between the heavy and the apparently fragile- is one of the central axes of Rabuñal's work. The title reinforces this ambiguity: it combines the sweet and the sexual without falling into literalness, proposing a reading between desire, the body and consumption.

The reference to the female body is not descriptive, but symbolic and sensorial, connecting with a modern tradition that goes from Brancusi to Louise Bourgeois, but filtered by a pop and contemporary sensibility.

This sculpture, brimming with irony, clearly synthesizes Mico Rabuñal's research on the body as an abstract form, desire as a cultural construction and sculpture as a space of friction between what we see, what we touch and what we mentally project.

Trained in Fine Arts in Barcelona, Mico Rabuñal has developed his own language that combines sculptural tradition and contemporary sensibility. He has exhibited in galleries in Barcelona and in fairs and emerging art spaces, and his work has been presented in group exhibitions linked to the new Spanish sculpture. His work is present in private collections and has begun to be incorporated into local institutional and museum collections, consolidating an expanding trajectory within the current art scene.
