In Rabbit (2025), Bordalo II transfers his iconic sculptural language, usually monumental and urban, to a limited edition format, keeping its symbolic and conceptual charge intact. The figure of the animal, recurrent in his production, functions as a metaphor for the fragility of species in the face of the impact of human consumption and the accumulation of waste.
The combination of hand-painted ceramics with recycled materials evidences the constant dialogue between artistic tradition and ecological awareness that defines the artist's work. Each piece presents subtle variations of the handmade process, reinforcing its unique character within the edition.
Internationally known as Bordalo II, he is one of the contemporary Portuguese artists with the greatest global projection. He grew up in direct contact with painting thanks to the influence of his grandfather, the renowned artist Artur Real Bordalo (1925-2017), a key figure in his visual and conceptual formation.
He began his artistic career at an early age in the field of graffiti, and later studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Lisbon. This experimentation led to his own language that combines urban art, installation and recycling.
Bordalo II defines himself as an artivist, and his work revolves around themes such as ecology, waste and criticism of contemporary consumerism. His international project Big Trash Animals has led him to intervene public spaces in Europe, America, Asia and Oceania, with works exhibited in cities such as Lisbon, Paris, Turin, São Paulo, Singapore, Dubai and Las Vegas, among many others. Part of his production is now part of important institutional and private collections, including the Contemporary Art Collection of the Parliament.
