DESCRIPTION
Italian school; XVIII-XIX centuries.
"Saint Paul".
Bronze.
Measurements: 28 x 10 x 9 cm.
This work in bronze reflects with sobriety and mastery the religious sculptural tradition of that period. The figure of the apostle is presented standing, wrapped in wide folds that fall naturally and bring dynamism and depth to the composition.
The treatment of the face, with severe features and abundant beard, transmits an intense expressive charge that refers to the spiritual authority and reflective character of St. Paul, in addition to carrying the sword, an indisputable symbol of his iconography.
The modeling of the bronze shows a remarkable technical mastery: the volumes are balanced, the proportions are harmonious and the surface has a dark patina that enhances the play of light and shadow. These characteristics link the work with the late baroque and neoclassical taste, where restrained dramatism and the search for formal balance coexist.
