DESCRIPTION
CARLO BONOMI (Italy, 1880-1961).
"Female head".
Patinated bronze. Patricia Green marble base.
Signed.
Measurements: 32 x 15 x 22 cm; 41 cm (total height with base).
As we see in this "Female head", Carlo Bonomi's heads are characterized by a style in the line of Art Deco, expressive and synthetic, with a strong simplification of the forms and a forceful modeling. It presents marked features, solid volumes and a certain geometrization that reduces the details to the essential, concentrating the attention on the structure and intensity of the face. It conveys a sense of sobriety, introspection and strength, with worked surfaces that retain the imprint of modeling, which brings dynamism and sculptural character.
Carlo Bonomi was an Italian sculptor active between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, mainly linked to monumental, religious and funerary sculpture, within an academic aesthetic influenced by realism and, in some cases, the Italian Liberty style; he developed his activity mainly in Italy, where he made public monuments and works for monumental cemeteries, although it is important to note that there were several artists with the same name, so the exact identification may vary depending on the city or period to which reference is made.
