Measurements: 42,5 x 17 x 17 cm (x2).
This pair of ornamental goblets, made in patinated bronze and seated on Portoro marble bases, is part of the European decorative production of the second half of the 19th century, marked by historicist eclecticism and the revitalization of formal repertoires of classical antiquity.
With a profile inspired by Greco-Roman kraters, the cups have an ovoid body that rises from a molded foot, with a transition marked by a ring knot and a collar of stylized leaves. The upper zone is articulated by a frieze of engraved meanders, a geometric motif of clear Hellenistic filiation, which underlines the perimeter of the vessel and visually orders the composition. On both sides there are horizontal handles of cylindrical section, sober and functional, which evoke ancient models reinterpreted under the academic prism of the 19th century. The surface of the body is enlivened by delicate vegetal reliefs, treated with a low and fluid modeling that attenuates the geometric severity of the whole.
