This marble sculpture stands out for the restrained tension of the elongated and muscular body, arranged in a dynamic posture that accentuates the sensation of movement.
The polished surface treatment allows us to appreciate the richness of the natural veining, whose dark tones run along the body of the animal, suggesting its fur. The crystal eyes intensify the expressiveness of the gaze.
The stylization of the forms, the emphasis on anatomical strength and the synthesis of volumes respond to the Art Deco taste, a trend that during the 1920s and 1930s showed a special predilection for the representation of exotic animals, which became symbols of elegance and modernity.
