Italian school; first third of the 20th century.
"Female nude".
White marble.
Measurements: 176 x 55 x 40 cm.
The work shows a clear interest in the anatomical study and the idealized beauty of the female body, features inherited from the classical sculptural tradition. The soft treatment of the marble, the delicacy of the facial features and the fluidity of the folds of the drapery reflect a refined technique aimed at the idealization of the figure. At the same time, the contrapposto posture - with the weight of the body shifted to one leg - brings naturalness and dynamism to the composition.
This sculpture made in represents a full-bodied female figure in a dynamic and elegant attitude. The woman appears slightly turned, with one arm raised holding a cloth that falls gently over her head, while the other delicately gathers the cloth that partially envelops her hip. The body rests on a sphere placed on a circular pedestal, creating a balanced and sinuous composition that accentuates the sensation of movement and the harmony of the forms.
During the first third of the 20th century, many Italian sculptors continued to cultivate this type of classically inspired sculpture, especially for the decoration of interiors, gardens or representative spaces. In this context, the piece is part of an academic tradition that, while coexisting with the artistic avant-garde of the time, kept alive the interest in the ideal of classical beauty and technical excellence in the work of marble.
