JEAN-ANTOINE INJALBERT (Beziers, 1845-Paris, 1933).
"Female bust".
Bronze.

Measurements: 40 x 29 x 26 cm.
Jean-Antoine Injalbert was a pupil of Augustin-Alexandre Dumont, winning the prestigious Prix de Rome in 1874 for La Douleur d'Orphée. On the day of the inauguration of the Mirabeau Bridge in Paris, he was made an officer of the Légion d'honneur. The four statues that adorn the piers of the bridge are his work, La Ville de Paris, La Navigation, Le Commerce and L'Abondance. In 1905 he was made a member of the Institut de France, that year the Bir-Hakeim Bridge was inaugurated. His works show a powerful imagination and a strong personality, as well as extensive knowledge. From 1915 onwards he showed great influence as a teacher, at the Académie Colarossi and as chief instructor at the École des Beaux-Arts. Among his students were Alfred Janniot, Gleb W. Derujinsky and the American sculptor Edward McCartan. Many of his works can be found in the Fayet Museum in Beziers, where the collections of his studio, which were donated in 1934, are exhibited, and in Villa Antonine, where he had his workshop.
