JORGE CASTILLO CASALDERREY (Pontevedra, 1933).
Untitled.
Cortén steel sculpture. Exemplary P.A.
Presents double signature and justification.
Measurements: 32 x 26,5 x 15 cm.
Jorge Castillo's sculpture, as can be seen in this piece, is characterized by imaginative figures and forms of great expressive force, close to the universe of surrealism. In his three-dimensional works he transfers to space the same symbolic and creative language present in his painting, giving life to characters and worlds arising from his imagination.
Jorge Castillo showed interest in drawing since he was a child; at the age of ten he made his first copy of a work by Peter Paul Rubens. Born in Spain but raised in Buenos Aires, he returned to Europe in 1955 and settled in Madrid, where the critic José María Moreno Galván encouraged his career. Since the late fifties he began to exhibit and sell his drawings, later developing an important career in engraving and painting. His work reached international projection, participating in events such as the São Paulo Art Biennial and the Venice Biennale. Throughout his career he has exhibited in numerous cities around the world and has received several awards. He currently lives and works in SoHo, New York City.
