BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

RAYMOND CORBIN (Rochefort-sur-Mer 1907 - Boulogne-Billancourt, 2002).
"Femme assise".
Bronze.
Signed. With foundry stamp.
Measurements: 20 x 14 x 15 cm (22,5 cm. height with base).

Bronze sculpture of rough surface, it does not look for the smoothness of the skin, but the vibration of the light on the matter. This technique, very close to expressionism, gives the sensation that the figure is being molded by the artist's hands at that precise moment. The posture of the woman, kneeling and leaning on her arms, creates a very stable triangular structure but full of tension. The tilt of the head suggests an attitude of alertness or curiosity.
Corbin was not only a great sculptor of round bulge, but he was also one of the most important medalists of his time. His technique: His experience creating medals gave him extraordinary precision in understanding how light strikes very low reliefs, something he applies here in the treatment of the figure's back and shoulders.
Acknowledgments: He was elected a member of the French Academy of Fine Arts in 1970, succeeding artists of the stature of Jean Carton. His work can be found in numerous French museums and international collections.
