DESCRIPTION
Ceremonial lance. Europe, probably XIX century.
Steel blade.
Wooden shaft covered and decorated with metallic applications.
Finish with textile tassels.
Measurements: 218 cm (length).
Lance of ceremonial character, as evidenced by both the stylization of the blade and the rich ornamentation of the shaft. The long shaft is decorated with metallic applications in relief, while the zone of union with the blade is enriched with turned elements and a showy tassel, habitual resource in weapons of parade or representation.
The morphology of the blade, narrow and elongated, together with the curved lateral appendages, refers to typologies close to the halberd, although in a simplified version and adapted to protocol uses.
This type of piece was frequent in court contexts, honor guards or historicist scenographies of the 19th century, where the symbolic and aesthetic value prevailed over the war functionality.
