DESCRIPTION
Set of four decorative weights. India, XIX century
White Makrana marble inlaid with hard stones (Parchin Kari technique).
Measurements: 16 x 13 x 13 cm (each).
Set of four decorative weights made in white Makrana marble, famous for its purity and used in monuments such as the Taj Mahal. The pieces are richly ornamented using the traditional technique of Parchin Kari (Indian hard stone), which consists of the meticulous inlaying of brightly colored semi-precious stones - red, green and blue - forming delicate floral motifs of clear Mughal inspiration. The precision of the work and the chromatic harmony are evidence of a refined level of craftsmanship.
These objects, conceived to hold carpets on terraces or keep doors open, transcend their everyday use to become attractive decorative pieces. Their design, with knob-shaped finials and stepped bases, combines functionality and aesthetics, reflecting the taste for detail and ornamentation characteristic of 19th century Indian production.
Today they are presented as an elegant and versatile set, ideal both for decorative use and to enrich a collection of oriental decorative arts.
