Sculpture of great poetic and symbolic force, in which Xavier Eescala represents the Greek god Hipnos -personification of the dream- next to a feminine figure abandoned to the rest. The composition, with a strong vertical sense, rises on a slender base, reinforcing the sensation of weightlessness and suspension.
The formal treatment evidences a clear inspiration in classical sculpture, reinterpreted from a contemporary sensibility: elongated proportions, polished surfaces and a harmonious composition reminiscent of ancient canons, but with a modern and emotional reading. The relationship between the two figures generates an almost choreographic rhythm, as if it were a dance suspended in time.
Xavier Escala holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Seville and a diploma in Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara. He completed his training in the workshops of Luigi Corsanini (stone carving) and Aron Demetz (wood carving). He has received two National Sculpture Awards and his work is part of public and private collections in Spain, Italy, Switzerland and Russia.
Since 2014 he has had his workshop and residence in Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues (Barcelona). He has exhibited in international institutions and spaces such as the MEAM in Barcelona, the Marmo Museum in Carrara, Davos Klosters (Switzerland) and galleries in Italy and Russia, consolidating a career marked by technical rigor and a solid international projection.
