This group of Dionysian character presents figures of rounded volumes and accentuated sensuality, intertwined in a dynamic composition. The presence of bunches of grapes and the abandoned attitude of the bodies refer to the Bacchic imaginary, associated with pleasure and vitality. The soft and compact modeling is characteristic of Nielsen's sculptural language.
Kai Nielsen was a key figure in early 20th century Danish art, known for his rounded forms and organic interpretation of the human figure. He achieved notoriety with works such as Nøgen and the monumental ensemble Ymerbrønden, as well as for his designs for manufactures such as Royal Copenhagen, where he developed compositions with mythological and allegorical themes.
