DESCRIPTION

This majestic sculpture of monumental format is inspired by the iconic figure of Antinous, the young favorite of the emperor Hadrian, whose effigy was consolidated as the last great canon of beauty of classical statuary. Executed around 1900, the work captures with extraordinary rigor the ideal of Antiquity, characterized by a perfect harmony of proportions and a subtle contrapposto that endows the anatomy with a serene and restrained dynamism. The face, of an idealized and melancholic beauty, faithfully reproduces the features of the eternal ephebe, projecting that timeless elegance that has fascinated artists and collectors over the centuries.

Executed in plaster with a patina of relevant technical quality, the piece masterfully emulates the depth and nobility of ancient bronze, reinforcing the modeling of the volumes and the precision of the anatomical study.

A detail of singular historical value is the exempt vine leaf, an element that not only alludes to the codes of decorum of the time of its creation, but also offers the possessor the versatility of showing the purity of the original classical nude.

Inscribed in the great academic tradition that recovered the Greco-Roman models for the ornamentation of palaces and prestigious interiors, this piece stands out for its imposing scenic presence, positioning itself as a reference work for the collecting of high-level decorative sculpture.
