The set presents a man and a woman dressed in traditional peasant clothing. The woman, with affable gesture, carries baskets that suggest daily tasks, probably linked to the market or to the harvest. Her posture, slightly bent, and the arrangement of the folds in her clothing denote a careful study of the movement and weight of the objects. The man, on the other hand, appears in a relaxed attitude, with a slight smile and a carefree air; his clothing -hat, jacket and tights- reinforces the picturesque character of the scene.
Both figures complement each other not only thematically, but also in their composition: there is an implicit dialogue between them, suggested by the direction of their gazes and the affinity in their gestures. This resource gives unity to the whole and turns it into something more than two independent sculptures, bringing it closer to a shared narrative.
The modeling reveals a remarkable technical skill, visible in the treatment of the faces, expressive without falling into exaggeration, and in the rich texture of the fabrics and accessories. Likewise, the ornate bases add a decorative component in keeping with the bourgeois taste of the time, where these pieces were intended to embellish interiors.
