DESCRIPTION

Attributed to ENRICO CATTANEO (Bergamo, December 27, 1989)
"Renaissance lady".
Bronze and wooden base.
Signed.
Measurements: 36 x 32 x 17 cm.
This "Renaissance Lady" in bronze is presented as a bust of sober and elegant composition, in which the figure appears represented up to the shoulders and with the head slightly turned, resource that contributes dynamism and a subtle sensation of inner life. This turn of the face breaks the strict frontality and introduces a game of gaze and spatial tension characteristic of Renaissance sensibility. The treatment of the bronze modeling allows us to appreciate a carefully worked surface, where the light slides over the volumes of the face and neck, accentuating the softness of the features and the idealization characteristic of Renaissance language.

Enrico Cattaneo (Bergamo, 1989) is an artist focused on the exploration of matter and support as active elements of the work. Trained at the Andrea Fantoni Institute and at the academies of Florence and Bergamo (2011-2017), he oriented his practice towards the use of recycled materials, especially cardboard, worked through subtractive processes such as engraving and incision.
Since his first solo exhibition in 2012 in Florence, he has developed a research based on the transformation of images through wear, removal and fragmentation. After a stay in Australia in 2013 and later in New York as an assistant to Andrea Mastrovito, he consolidated a more critical and experimental language.
His work evolved from an initial figuration towards more evocative and abstract forms, where matter and gesture generate images linked to memory and the passage of time. He has participated in initiatives linked to the Venice Biennale and has presented solo exhibitions such as Readjustement (2019), in which he explores balances between the natural and the artificial through fragmented structures in tension.
