BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

HUGO BRUCE (United Kingdom, 1969).
"Death shall not part us II".
Brass, dried flowers, earth, fibers and glass urn.
Measurements: 20 x 48 x 19 cm (total).
Hugo Bruce is a sculptor whose work delves into a deep reflection on the nature of life and its relationship with art, developing a visual language of great psychological intensity. Trained at the City and Guilds of London Art School and later at the Winchester School of Art, his career has been built on a solid pictorial base that, over time, has evolved into a sculptural practice marked by an almost obsessive meticulousness. This extreme attention to detail endows his pieces with a quality close to goldsmithing, generating ambiguous forms that oscillate between the organic and the artificial, and that connect with deep dimensions of the unconscious.
From his first exhibitions in the UK in the 1990s, such as at Beaux Arts Gallery, to his most recent solo shows at Espacio Valverde, including Love and Death (2012), Origins (2017) or Solaris (2020), Bruce has consolidated a coherent and recognizable trajectory. His work has been continuously present in relevant international fairs such as ARCO Madrid, UNTITLED Miami Beach, VOLTA Basel or Taipei Dangdai, as well as in exhibition projects that evidence his global projection.
Throughout his career he has received several awards, including the Lord Leighton Prize, as well as being a finalist in awards such as the Hunting Art Prize on several occasions. His sculptures are part of private collections in Europe, the United States and Australia, which shows the international resonance of his work.
