DESCRIPTION
Spanish School, XVIII century.
"Baby Jesus as Savior Mundi".
Sculpture in carved and polychrome wood, with gilded details.
It presents restorations and some faults.
Measurements: 27 x 9 x 9 cm.
Spanish devotional sculpture of the XVIII century that represents the Child Jesus as Savior Mundi, holding the orb in one of his hands and raising the other one in attitude of blessing. The piece follows a widespread typology in the domestic and conventual sphere of Baroque religiosity.
The work stands out for its naive and expressive character, with a frontal treatment of the anatomy, serene face and polychrome flesh tones. The contrast between the child figure, the globe and the blessing attitude reinforces its symbolic meaning: Christ child as redeemer and sovereign of the world.
