BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

LUISA GRANERO (Barcelona, 1924 - 2012).
"Female nude".
Patinated bronze.
Signed on the base.
Measurements: 75 × 30 × 22 cm; 82 × 22 × 21 cm (with base).

Luisa Granero approaches the female nude from a serene and classical sensibility, focused on the harmony of the body and the restraint of the gesture. The figure, standing and in slight contrapposto, presents a collected and introspective attitude, far from any theatricality, where the volume imposes itself with a silent and balanced presence.

The greenish patinated bronze accentuates the solidity of the piece and softly shades the anatomical surfaces. Granero combines a strong construction of the body with a delicate modeling of the face and hands, achieving an image of great formal sobriety. The work is part of a modern figurative line, heir to the Mediterranean tradition, in which the female figure becomes a vehicle of beauty, balance and permanence.

Luisa Granero was an outstanding Spanish sculptor. Trained at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de Sant Jordi, she furthered her training in Paris, where she came into contact with the work of Maillol, Despiau and Zadkine, decisive influences in her evolution.

She was the first woman professor of sculpture in Spain and a doctor of the University of Barcelona (1983), as well as an academic of the Royal Academies of San Fernando, Santa Isabel of Hungary and Sant Jordi, and a member of the National Sculpture Society of New York since 1973. Her public work includes outstanding pieces such as the reliefs of the Faculty of Law of the University of Barcelona and the monument to Pau Casals, as well as sculptures in Barcelona, Zaragoza and Palma de Mallorca.
