DESCRIPTION
Crucified Christ. Baroque, 17th century.
Lime wood carved and polychrome.
It has slight losses and signs of its age.
Measurements: 82 x 52 cm.
Baroque carving in polychrome wood of devotional theme. The inclined head and the half-open mouth intensify the dramatism of the expiring Christ. The figure presents an expressive anatomical modeling, with an elongated torso, marked abdomen and crossed legs, following a composition of great devotional dynamism.
The purity cloth, treated with deep and moving folds, retains traces of gilding and reddish polychrome, providing visual richness and accentuating the contrast with the light flesh of the body.
Due to its ascending composition and pathos, the work is inscribed in the baroque sensibility of the 17th century, focused on moving the faithful through a direct, expressive and intensely spiritual image.
