DESCRIPTION
Anatomical model, mid-19th century.
Patinated pine wood.
Articulated figure.
Measurements: 80 cm high.
Articulated anatomical model made of patinated pine wood. The figure has a proportionate body, head carved with schematic features and mobile extremities by means of joints in shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, wrists and ankles, which allowed it to be placed in different positions.
This type of model was used as a support tool in artistic workshops and academies, facilitating the study of proportion, movement and arrangement of the human body. Unlike the smaller mannequins used for drawing, this piece stands out for its 80 cm height, which gives it a notable presence and a particularly sculptural character.
The warm patina of the wood, together with the signs of use visible on the surface, reinforce its interest as a historical object linked to 19th century art education. Because of its scale, articulation and material quality, it constitutes a piece of great decorative and collecting appeal, close to the realm of academic and workshop models.
