DESCRIPTION
Female bust. Europe, late seventeenth century-early eighteenth century.
Carrara marble.
Good state of preservation: superficial wear, deposits, erosions and areas with alterations in the marble according to its age.
Measurements: 75 x 58 x 28 cm.
Female bust in Carrara marble of remarkable quality, dated between the end of the XVII century and the beginning of the XVIII century. The work presents a young woman with a serene expression, slightly turned, with her hair tied up and her torso wrapped by a dress of wide folds, treated with a clear baroque sensibility.
The piece combines classical idealization and courtly naturalism. The face, with its soft features and restrained gaze, contrasts with the more dynamic movement of the cloth, arranged in diagonals and deep volumes that bring a luminous richness to the surface. The carving reveals special attention to the modeling of the neck, the facial oval and the transition between skin, hair and fabric, elements that give the whole a remarkable sculptural presence.
The use of Carrara marble, together with the generous scale of the bust, places the work in the field of European sculpture, linked to the aristocratic portrait or the idealized representation of a female figure. More than a strictly psychological portrait, the image responds to a noble and decorative conception of the figure, intended to convey distinction, grace and permanence.
