Primarily a sculptor, though he also creates paintings, Julián Ortiz settled in Valencia in 1964. Trained in artistic anatomy, he also took classes in spatial interpretation at the Center for Artistic Studies and studied design and decoration, which facilitated the industrial reproduction of his works, both in the furniture and sculpture sectors. His work focuses on the human figure, which he approaches with a concise, stylized, and deeply expressive language. Throughout his career, Julián Ortiz has held solo and group exhibitions in Spain, Belgium, China, and Korea, and has participated in art fairs such as Estampa and Art Madrid. Among his most recent exhibitions, the one held at Espacio Boira in Valencia in 2013 stands out, as does his participation in the group exhibition “En Paralelo,” presented by the Valencian gallery O+O in China and Spain that same year. He is the recipient of the Ingenuity Award from the Natalia Gil Gallery in Valencia (2004) and the first prize for sculpture at the Second Valencia Art Biennial (2005). Julián Ortiz is the founder of the artistic movement La Escalera (Valencia, 2010), and his work is included in various private collections in Europe, the United States, and China.
