Llorenç Rosselló was undoubtedly one of the most important sculptors ever born in Mallorca. His short life and the many awards he received have made him a prominent figure in our art world, although he has not yet received the artistic recognition he deserves. This is likely due to his limited body of work: a sudden bout of tuberculosis, at the age of 33, cut his life short, following the great success he achieved at the 1900 Paris World’s Fair with his work *Desolación*.
Among Llorenç Rosselló’s iconic sculptures, *El foner balear* stands out (for several years now, the Palma City Council has been giving distinguished visitors to the city a small-scale reproduction of it); of this work, in Palma, there are three originals: “in the art world, a sculpture is considered an original if the foundry produces no more than seven copies; one in the Hort del Rei, another at the Palau de Marivent—placed in a strategic location to welcome visitors to the Palau—and a third at the Sa Nostra headquarters in Son Fuster.
