This particular piece is a detailed reduction or replica in patinated bronze, produced primarily during the 19th century, a time when such works were very popular as souvenirs of the Italian Grand Tour. Following the discovery of the original marble statue in 1863 at the Villa of Livia (Rome), prominent Italian workshops such as that of Benedetto Boschetti began casting these refined bronze versions on marble bases for international collectors.
