Bullfighting is one of the recurring themes in Silvino Poza’s sculptural work. In this piece, the figure of the bullfighter is partially enveloped by the sweeping movement of the cape, whose polished finish is a hallmark of the work, contrasting with the dark, greenish patina of the body. The distinct treatment of the surfaces accentuates the piece’s dynamism and makes the cape the principal sculptural element of the composition.
Silvino Poza was a sculptor and printmaker who developed a figurative body of work closely linked to the human figure, dance, and bullfighting. He participated in institutional exhibitions such as the 18th Print Exhibition (1968), the 1972 National Exhibition of Contemporary Art, and the 20th Print and Printmaking Arts Exhibition, held that same year at the Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid.
