BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

After ROBERT INDIANA (New Castle, Indiana, 1928 – Vinalhaven, Maine, 2018).
"LOVE Red Gold," 2018.
Painted polystone, numbered copy from an edition of 500.
Published by Éditions Studio.
Comes with a certificate of authenticity from the publisher and is in its original box.
Measurements: 15 x 15 x 7 cm.

The piece reproduces "LOVE," Robert Indiana's most iconic image, characterized by the compact arrangement of the four letters and the tilted "O." The motif first appeared in the mid-1960s—the MoMA commissioned a version for its 1965 Christmas card—and was later developed by Indiana in painting, graphic art, and sculpture. In this edition, the combination of red and gold accentuates the graphic and sculptural nature of a composition that has become one of the great visual icons of American Pop Art.

Robert Indiana developed a visual language based on words, numbers, and symbols drawn from American visual culture, combining the graphic clarity of Pop Art with autobiographical, literary, and historical references. Based in New York since the 1950s, he was part of the Coenties Slip art scene and achieved international recognition with *LOVE*. His work is represented, among other institutions, at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
